Buddha Bar, Budapest

When is a hotel more than a hotel? That is a question which comes to mind when visiting the exceptional Buddha Bar Klotild Palace in Budapest. Located on the Vaci Utca (the city’s most famous shopping street) it is an imposing building which, from the outside, reminded me a little of Hotel Paris in Prague (definitely not once inside though!).

The staff were absolutely fantastic, which always makes such a difference in any hotel, and very friendly. One of the first things they did when we checked in was to give us little cards for complimentary cocktails in the bar (the hotel has three bars, all of which serve cocktails – the Lobby Bar, the Buddha Bar (next to the restaurant) and the Klotild Bar). Pleased with this gesture we settled into our rooms (I visited with three friends) before enjoying dinner in the Buddha Bar restaurant and cocktails in the bar.

The beds were 6ft super kings and exceedingly comfy and the rooms also featured balconies, tv’s that you could also play your own music through, Nespresso machines, complimentary water and wifi, and refrigerated drawers for a mini bar. In the bathrooms were large dumper showers, though unfortunately the bathroom floor did tend to get wet due to the poor design of the shower area (insufficient incline and no shower tray). We never needed to order room service during our four day stay so I can’t comment on it.

Dinner in the Buddha Bar restaurant was something we were really looking forward to and the first night seemed the perfect opportunity. The decor was fairly unsurprising with a large golden Buddha as the focal point of the restaurant and the room was quite dark (which I personally like).

Here is some of what I ate:

The cocktails were fantastic and we certainly worked our way through the menu and were treated to several custom creations by mixologists Tommy and Atti.

Breakfast was served in the Siddharta cafe each day and as well as the usual buffet fare (a good selection) there were several dishes cooked to order:

In short I can’t wait to return to Buddha Bar Budapest!
