Beaufort Restaurant, Hare & Hounds Hotel, Westonbirt

The Hare and Hounds Hotel in Westonbirt, Gloucestershire (near Tetbury) has several things to recommend it – proximity to Beaufort Polo Club (it’s right next door), the peaceful setting, the decor, and the 2 AA Rosette restaurant. Oh and Jack Hare’s, the hotel bar, is definitely worth visiting too.

The restaurant food was good on the whole, with one notable exception, which will be fairly obvious in the pictures below:

Amuse bouche

Starter

Well it was this – my starter – a single piece of mushroom ravioli in a consommé! It was bland, it was boring, there was no colour contrast, there were no interesting textures. I’m struggling with what else to say about it to be frank!

Main

Thankfully the lemon sole was somewhat better though the sauce looked and tasted suspiciously like the consommé from the starter!

Pudding

Petit fours
