Brunch at Kopapa, Covent Garden

Peter Gordon’s Kopapa, on Monmouth Street in Seven Dials, is aptly named meaning ‘a gathering’ or ‘a building to store food’ in Maori. The owners all have Maori/New Zealand heritage and this is reflected in the cooking with things like the tamarillo and kiwifruit smoothie (which was delicious!) on the menu. The restaurant is quite informal making it ideal for a laid back weekend brunch.

This dish may not look like much but tasted incredible! I was a little apprehensive of the combination of bacon with banana and orange but it all worked together perfectly. The texture of the bread was moist and rich and the crispiness of the bacon a good contrast. The tamarind relish was delicious too.

The pudding won the prize for presentation although the macaroon was just a little too dry I thought. The basil sorbet was extremely refreshing and I loved the star anise on the roasted pineapple. I would definitely like to come back to Kopapa for another brunch and try more of their exciting dishes!
